The Ebonyi State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the party’s preparedness to participate in next year’s general election as aspirants declare interest in running. for the positions of governor, senator, house of representatives and house of assembly.
The Chairman of the Party in Ebonyi State, Dr Mrs Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, who disclosed this to journalists on Monday after the State Working Committee meeting held at her secretariat along the old Enugu-Abakaliki road, said that ADC, like every other political party in Nigeria, will feature on the ballot paper.
According to her, the meeting became necessary in continuation of the party’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections, assuring that the party will field candidates across the board, especially in Ebonyi State.
“Today, we had a State Working Committee meeting; the LGA chairmen, the ward chairmen and the aspirants were all here. You can see the crowd. The crowd is massive,” she stated.
She said while giving reasons for the meeting, “The meeting is to brief members on the state of the party. So, we deemed it very necessary to call for this meeting. First, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is a political party and not a support group. We are not a pseudo to a political party. We are a political party, and this is a party that is going to be on the ballot paper. We are going to field candidates across the board, more especially in Ebonyi State,” Adibe reiterated.
She further pointed out that the party is going to be having state assembly candidates, house of representatives candidates, and senatorial candidates, including a governorship candidate, restating, “we are ready, and the aspirants are ready to run elections with the party.”
Dr Mrs Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, while disclosing the second reason for the SWC meeting, said the members took out time to consider the federal high court judgment that quashed the earlier conducted congresses of the party, disclosing that every state will be reconducting her congresses, Ebonyi inclusive.
“The SWC also looked at the federal high court judgment delivered on the 29th day of April. All the congresses were held before they were quashed. The state chairmen were mandated to go and conduct the congresses. So, we have looked at it, and we are obeying the court order to go and conduct the congresses.
“The nation has also been notified, and they are fully aware of the judgment, and we are going to be re-conducting the congresses again following the court judgment.”
“Every other state will be conducting it, and we will not be left behind. It is also necessary that we follow through to conduct the congresses so that our aspirants will be elected in a legitimate way.
“Even the convention was also quashed. The nation has issued another date, the 27th of May, for a special convention. In that convention, distinguished Senator David Mark and other national working committee members will be re-elected and ratified as national working committee members on the 27th of December 2026. We are law-abiding citizens; we do not go against court orders; we are following due process,” she maintained.
She, moreover, called on members to come together ahead of the congresses, stating that there is a need for the party members to work in harmony now that fresh congresses have been announced, if they are to win the election.
