The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has declared that the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is united and prepared to deliver overwhelming votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Kalu made the declaration on Tuesday in Umuahia during the party’s state congress, which produced former Minority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, as the new state chairman.
He said the congress marked a new phase for the party in Abia following a harmonisation process that restored unity and strengthened its internal structure.
Commending President Tinubu for promoting consensus within the party, Kalu noted that the directive by the national leadership to adopt harmonisation helped rebuild and reposition the APC in the state.
“Abia State is ready to give the President the vote he is looking for. Come 2027, we are not negotiating 25 per cent; we are going to give him massive votes,” he said.
The deputy speaker also announced plans for a mega unity rally in the state, adding that the president and members of the party’s national leadership would be invited.
In his acceptance speech, the new chairman, the Hon. Chukwu, pledged to run an inclusive and transparent administration while ending factional divisions within the party.
He thanked delegates and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, assuring members that there would be no victors and no vanquished.
Chukwu set a target of increasing APC membership in Abia to at least 500,000 registered members ahead of the 2027 elections.
Chairman of the APC Abia State Congress Committee and former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Emmanuel Go’ar had earlier described the exercise as peaceful and commended party leaders for ensuring a rancour-free process.
