The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has attributed the recent suspension of the party’s chairman in Bauchi state, Mallam Hassan Haruna, to alleged anti-party activities and parallelisation in the party’s wards and local governments.
Acting Chairman Alhaji Mahmood Hassan Tabla disclosed this during a press briefing at the NUJ secretariat in Bauchi on Tuesday, saying Haruna was suspended by the 20 local government chairmen of the party for refusing to answer queries and violating the party’s constitution.
He said that the local government executives accused him of violating the party’s constitution by recognising different sets of party executives, prompting the disciplinary action.
He recalled that the Local Government Executives had sued him and 20 others at the Bauchi State High Court, which restrained them from parading as ADC executives.
While describing the African Democratic Congress as the most reliable opposition party in Nigeria, Alhaji Tabla promised to work in the interest of lasting peace and participatory democracy in running the affairs of the ADC in Bauchi State.
“The Chairmen of the ADC in the 20 local governments of Bauchi State, in exercise of their powers under the ADC Constitution, set up a Disciplinary Committee and sent a formal query containing allegations against the former State Chairman, Mallam Hassan Haruna,” he said.
Alhaji Tabla said instead of responding to the query, the suspended chairman issued a press release dated 18th January, 2026, and convened a meeting on 19th January, 2026, where they released the names of 20 people as chairmen of the ADC in the 20 local governments of Bauchi State.
