The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the opposition African Democratic Party (ADC) of being its archenemy, claiming that internal party leadership disputes may be to blame for the recent shooting deaths of its leaders in Edo State.
Additionally, the APC stated that the ADC is doing a good job of crippling itself before it has time to stand on its own two feet and that it certainly does not require outside assistance to achieve its political demise.
While denying any role in the incident, the ruling party called the charges that it was responsible for the shooting “baseless, reckless, and politically motivated”.
In a recent statement, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka denounced the shooting and urged security personnel to conduct a comprehensive, unbiased, and prompt investigation to find and bring charges against the perpetrators.
He stated: “As prime suspects, the ADC, its leaders, and its members should be thoroughly examined at the outset of any investigation into this incident. The ADC is dominated by internal leadership and cult-like supremacy struggles because it is a party of leaders without members.
The factional leaders’ frequently reported violent altercations and confrontations over control and access to specific party meetings should be the main focus of the law enforcement investigation, among other leads.
The ADC cannot use a violent incident that it created on its own to disparage our wonderful Party.
“There is no doubt that all well-meaning Nigerians must denounce any form of violence in our political sphere. The reported shooting incident in Edo State is strongly condemned by our great party.
“We demand that police and other law enforcement agencies conduct a prompt investigation into the incident and prosecute those responsible.”
Recalling the press release from Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in which the ADC asserted that the APC was to blame for the shooting incident involving its members in Edo State, Morka said, “That is utterly delusional,” pointing out that “accusing the APC, even before any investigation is carried out by law enforcement, is particularly senseless and shows the ADC as a party that lacks focus and regard for due process of law.”
“The party has declared itself to be the accuser, investigator, prosecutor, and judge in its own cause by drawing this illogical conclusion.
“Nigerians must question how the intricacies of Nigeria’s security environment can be handled by a party that cannot handle a single incident with appropriate direction, maturity, and accordance with the law and constitutional process.
“It is reckless and unjustifiable for the ADC to bring up instances of terrorism committed against our party by the ruling APC in its press release. This portrayal only serves to highlight the ADC and its leaders as a bewildered group that will stop at nothing to incite emotions and win over the public.
Its casual charge demonstrates unequivocally that the ADC is disconnected from the realities of the nation’s war on terror and is indifferent to the patriotic sacrifices made by our soldiers on the front lines to protect our freedom and lives.
“To be clear, the unfortunate shooting incident is not at all the APC’s fault or role. Morka emphasised, “We are too busy assessing our recent significant victories in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), municipal elections, and the constituency elections in Rivers and Kano States to give any thought to a small and unimportant gathering of ADC political nomads in Edo State.
He added that despite its annoying tirades, the ADC should be busy trying to understand its consecutive poor and shameful performances in the nation’s past and recent by-elections.
“We are appreciative of Nigerians’ strong and expanding support for our wonderful party. We are especially grateful to the voters in the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, and Rivers States for their articulate expressions of support for our party and President Bola Tinubu’s transformative and visionary leadership.
He continued, “Our party and Mr President remain focused on building a stronger, more resilient, and prosperous country for the good of all Nigerians.”
