The military task force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, has launched a comprehensive security and agricultural initiative across Southern Kaduna to safeguard the 2026 farming season.
The mission aims to foster communal harmony and stabilise the region’s agricultural output through direct engagement with local stakeholders.
During the fourth high-level security seminar held on Tuesday, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, emphasised that societal prosperity is inextricably linked to mutual tolerance.
Represented by Brig-Gen. Mohammed Sule, the GOC, addressed traditional, religious, and youth leaders from the Ja’ama, Kaura, Kauru, Zango Kataf, and Jaba local government areas.
He noted that while deliberate conflict mitigation has brought a period of calm to the region, the persistent threats of illegal arms manufacturing and the influx of cattle into farming zones remain significant triggers for violence and crop destruction.
To translate these security objectives into tangible community benefits, the military initiated a non-kinetic intervention approved by the Chief of Defence Staff, our correspondent said.
The non-kinetic intervention saw selected farmers across five local government areas go home with 760 bags of fertilisers, provided by the GOC.
Speaking earlier, the Commander of Sector 7, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Col. Dele Fapohunda urged residents to abandon hostility in favour of community-based dispute resolution.
He maintained that security agencies serve as neutral arbiters and stressed that the effectiveness of their operations depends heavily on the willingness of locals to provide timely and credible information.
Fapohunda underscored that a harmonised relationship between herders and farmers is essential for national food security.
On his part, the Ja’ama Local Government Chairman, Hon. Peter Tanko Dogara, pledged to facilitate periodic engagements with local chiefs to sustain peace.
He assured stakeholders that local government leadership is committed to dialogue-driven mechanisms to ensure the planting season remains free of crisis.
