Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has announced the formation of a streamlined and people-orientated Presidential Campaign Council. He stated that the structure is designed to reflect the economic realities that Nigerians are facing ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to Atiku, the campaign team is intended to operate with discipline and focus, especially at a time when many Nigerians are struggling with rising living costs, high unemployment, and insecurity. This announcement was made in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by Phrank Shaibu, the Director of Strategic Communication for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council and Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to the former vice president.
The statement revealed that businessman Kashim Ibrahim-Imam will serve as the Chairman of the Campaign Council, while former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has been appointed as Deputy Chairman. Senator Austin Akobundu will take on the role of Director-General and Campaign Manager, responsible for coordinating the council’s activities.
Additionally, six Deputy Directors-General will oversee key operational directorates, and 30 directors have been assigned specific responsibilities. Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu will lead the Media and Communications Directorate, while former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye will head the Contact and Mobilisation Directorate.
In terms of policy development, Mohammed Hayatudeen will chair the Policy Team, which includes Professor Mohammed Sagagi and other members such as the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Kingsley Moghalu. The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Oyegun, will chair the Campaign Advisory Board.
Explaining the rationale behind these appointments, the statement emphasised, “This is a structure built for work. Every directorate has a specific duty, and every director has an assignment. All appointees must be accountable for results.” It continued, “Our measure of success will be determined by how effectively we address the rising cost of living, unemployment, insecurity, and declining purchasing power—and how well we organise to make Nigeria more affordable again.”
The campaign council has been deliberately designed to remain compact while focusing on practical solutions to the challenges Nigerians face. Atiku Abubakar is the presidential candidate for the ADC in the upcoming 2027 general election. Political parties are ramping up preparations for the polls by unveiling their campaign structures and key officials expected to lead nationwide mobilisation efforts. The ADC aims to concentrate on addressing the increasing cost of living, insecurity, unemployment, and other economic challenges that affect Nigerians as the race for the presidency intensifies.
