Bauchi CP Orders 24-Hour Patrols After Azare Rival Youth Groups’ Clash

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered round-the-clock patrols in Azare town following a violent clash between rival youth groups that left 10 people seriously injured.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026, in the Tsakuwa area of Azare, Katagum Local Government Area.

According to the Bauchi State Police Command, a distress call was received at about 12:15 a.m. reporting a fight between youths from Tsakuwa and Matsango communities.

He said patrol teams were immediately deployed to the scene, and the rioting youths were dispersed with minimal force.

“Further findings revealed that about 10 persons from both sides sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Federal University Health Science Teaching Hospital, FUHSTH, Azare, for medical attention,” the command said in a statement signed by the police public relations officer, SP Nafiu Habib.

In response to the disturbance, CP Aliyu led a team of senior officers to Azare on Tuesday for an on-the-spot assessment and engagements with community stakeholders.

The CP commended the Area Commander, Azare; the Divisional Police Officer; operatives of No. 10 Squadron Police Mobile Force; the Violent Crime Response Unit; the Anti-Kidnapping Unit; and other security outfits for their swift intervention which, he said, prevented loss of lives and further destruction of property.

During the visit, the Commissioner and his team also paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Katagum, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Faruq II, at his palace.

The Emir lauded the police for their professionalism in restoring order and pledged the Emirate’s support in identifying and prosecuting those behind the clash.

CP Aliyu has directed sustained patrols and 24-hour monitoring in the affected areas to forestall any reprisal attack.

He also ordered a discreet investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the clash to facilitate the arrest and prosecution of the ringleaders.

“While calling for calm, the Commissioner urged parents, community and religious leaders, and youth groups in Azare to embrace dialogue and shun violence,” the statement added.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property and warned that anyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law.

The command confirmed that normalcy is gradually returning to the area, while fifteen suspects have so far been arrested and efforts are ongoing to apprehend more accomplices.

Residents have been advised to go about their lawful businesses, as security presence has been intensified in Azare town.
