The Bauchi State government on Wednesday inaugurated the Bauchi State Steering Committee for the Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons and Host Communities initiative, a World Bank-assisted project known as SOLID.
Inaugurating the committee, the deputy governor of the state, the Rt Honourable Auwal Muhammad Jatau, who will chair the committee, said the project aims to tackle the root causes of vulnerability and restore dignity for displaced persons while strengthening host communities.
He noted that SOLID aligns with the state’s policy of leaving no one behind by empowering displaced men, women and children with pathways to return home and rebuild.
“This steering committee is the engine of governance for this project,” Jatau said at the Government House, the venue of the inauguration.
“It will ensure every naira invested, every policy adopted and every activity implemented under SOLID reflects the priorities of His Excellency Governor Bala Mohammed and the people of Bauchi State.” He stated.
In a press release, Special Assistant on media to the deputy governor, Muslim Lawal, quoted his principal as urging members to integrate SOLID activities with the state’s broader development goals and maintain a unified approach across sectors.
Rt Jatau stressed the need for sustainability beyond the project’s funding cycle, calling on the committee to institutionalise gains, secure budget allocations, and preserve infrastructure and social cohesion built under SOLID.
The deputy governor pledged the full support of the Bala Mohammed administration for the effective implementation of the project and thanked the World Bank and other partners for initiating it.
State SOLID Project Coordinator Abdulsamad Abubakar said the committee will provide high-level oversight and coordination to ensure effective delivery.
