Bauchi Police Arrest Three Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Two Hostages

The Bauchi State Police Command said it has arrested three suspected kidnappers and rescued two hostages in the Kirfi local government area.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Bauchi State Command, SP Nafiu Habib, made this known in a crime bulletin on Wednesday, stating that the operation was carried out by a patrol team attached to Kirfi Division, led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) SP Hassan Saidu.

He disclosed that the operation followed intelligence information from motorists on 26 January 2026, indicating that unknown miscreants had blocked the Bauchi-Gombe Federal Highway.

SP Habib, who gave the names of the suspects as Isiya Nasiru, 20 years old, and Umaru Nasiru, 18 years old, said local charm bulletproof shirts, facemasks, and an Oppo Android phone were recovered as exhibits.

SP Habib said a similar incident also led to the arrest of a suspected kidnapping kingpin, Abdulkadir Adamu ‘m’ aged 60 years, of Garin Barde, Bara village, Kirfi LGA, following credible information from a good Samaritan.

“On the 27th of January, 2026, at about 0630 hrs, information received from a good Samaritan indicated that one Abdulhamid Mohammed ‘m’ of Tudun Sullubawa, Bara Village, Kirfi LGA, was kidnapped at about 0330 hrs by unidentified suspected kidnappers,” he said.

The PPRO said a high-powered team of operatives, in conjunction with local quasi-security outfits, acted on the intelligence report and tracked down the victim at the suspects’ hideout and engaged them in a gun battle.

He said police superior firepower left the kidnappers with no option but to run away, during which one of the suspects was killed, and the two captives were rescued safely and moved to the hospital for a medical examination.

According to the PPRO, one fabricated revolver gun, one fabricated SMG gun, one live ammunition, three live cartridges, one empty cartridge, one backpack, two keypad phones, a blindfolded scarf, and a water container were recovered from the suspects as exhibits.

SP Habib said the state commissioner of police, Sani-omolori Aliyu, has ordered the state criminal investigation department (SCID) to thoroughly investigate the matter and charge the suspects in court.
