Bauchi Police Deploy Mobile Courts Against Unregistered Vehicles

The Bauchi State Police Command has launched mobile courts across the state to enforce stricter penalties for unregistered vehicles and the use of concealed or fake number plates.

According to a press release signed and issued to newsmen by the command’s public relations officer, SP Nafiu Habib, on Wednesday, the operation began on Tuesday, June 17, on the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The command further informed that, in collaboration with the State Judiciary, the courts have been stationed at the five Area Command Headquarters and other strategic points in the Bauchi metropolis.

It added that offenders are being prosecuted immediately.

The release maintained that the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said untraceable vehicles are often used for kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes.

The CP, who said the initiative is not meant to harass motorists, explained that it is about protecting lives and property.

He warned that vehicles without proper registration, with obscured plates, or bearing fake plates will be impounded.

“Offenders will face instant trial and fines under the Motor Vehicles (Registration & Licensing) Laws and Nigeria Police Regulations,” the press release said.

The command urged vehicle owners to regularise their documents and display plates properly, adding that the exercise will be a continuous one, and called for public cooperation.

“We remain committed to a safer road environment and will not relent in ridding the state of criminal elements who hide behind untraceable vehicles,” PPRO said.
