Bauchi Police Mobilise Traditional and Religious Leaders for Community Policing

The Bauchi State Police Command has pledged quarterly security meetings across all 20 LGAs after a stakeholders’ engagement with two senior Deputy Inspectors General of Police in attendance.

The meeting held yesterday in Bauchi brought together DIG Zachariah Fera Achinyan, coordinating DIG for the North East, and DIG Ibrahim Baba Zango, who met with Emirate Council members; CAN and JNI leaders; state executive council; heads of tertiary institutions; National Human Rights Commission, PCRC, POWA, youth and women groups; CSOs; students’ unions; and security agencies.

In his remarks, DIG Fera said intelligence and technology will fail without public trust.

“When the people speak, crime has nowhere to hide,” he said, reaffirming the force’s commitment to proactive steps against kidnapping and armed robbery in the North East.

DIG Zango urged traditional and religious leaders to serve as the first line of defence, saying, “No community is too small. Your vigilance, your voice, and your information save lives. Security is local before it becomes national.”

Stakeholders from Emirate Councils, CAN, JNI and CSOs pledged renewed grassroots mobilisation and neighbourhood security structures to improve information flow to police.

CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu said the command will institutionalise quarterly LGA engagements for continuous feedback and local strategy adaptation.

He assured residents of sustained patrols and targeted raids.

“Bauchi will remain safe because we are now policing together,” he said in a press release signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib.

The event ended with a charge to officers to remain professional and approachable, reminding them that “the citizen is the boss”.
