The Bauchi State Police Command on Thursday concluded activities marking International Youth Day 2026 with a Peace Walkathon and Sports Fiesta at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi.
The event held on August 21 was organised to promote peace, healthy living, social inclusion and responsible citizenship among youths under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations”.
The activities began with a peace walk led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu.
He was accompanied by his wife, Hajiya Nana Fatima Omolori, Chairperson, Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA); members of the Command Management Team; and hundreds of youths.
Participants marched from the Police Headquarters on Yandoka Road to the stadium environs, carrying placards with messages of peace, unity and anti-thuggery to sensitise the public.
At the stadium, the walk was followed by competitive and exhibition events aimed at fostering camaraderie and talent development. Highlights included a football match between Referees Council FC Bauchi and Police Machines FC; a tug of war between POWA and Women Police; as well as competitions in badminton, horse riding and sketching.
There were also special exhibitions by Bauchi Sketchers, equestrians and children from police barracks.
The fiesta recorded a large turnout of stakeholders, including senior police officers; POWA members; the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, representatives of quasi-security agencies; persons with disabilities; and youths from across the Bauchi metropolis.
In his address, CP Aliyu described the event as a strategic platform to engage youths positively and redirect their energies away from violence, drug abuse and political or digital thuggery.
“Sports, arts and community activities remain critical tools for building discipline, teamwork and national cohesion,” he said.
The CP further pointed out that “We must create more avenues that will make our youths see themselves as partners in peace and development.”
He commended participants for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship, with special recognition for persons with disabilities and barracks children.
CP Aliyu also appreciated POWA, PCRC and other partners for their support.
The Command stated that the program aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to promote inclusive policing and youth empowerment for a safer and more secure society.
It reiterated its commitment to youth empowerment, inclusive policing and strategic partnerships across the state.
The event was coordinated by the police public relations officer, SP Nafiu Habib.
