The Bauchi State chapter of the Social Democratic Party has reaffirmed its loyalty to Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam as the party’s substantive National Chairman, distancing itself from what it called “unlawful claims” to the party’s leadership by someone else.
In a press release issued on Monday by the state chairman, Hon. Nasiru Hussaini, the chapter said it recognises only the leadership duly affirmed by a court of competent jurisdiction and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“For the avoidance of doubt, a court of competent jurisdiction has nullified the claims of Sadiq Gombe and affirmed Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam as the substantive and duly elected National Chairman of the SDP,” Husaini stated.
The Bauchi chapter declared that Sadiq Gombe lacks the legal authority to represent the party in any capacity, adding that any decision or commitment made by him in the party’s name is “null and void”.
Hussaini stressed that the Bauchi chapter is not aligned with any individual, faction, or group outside the party’s legally recognised framework.
Hussaini, who said the Bauchi state chapter of the SDP is not a party to any arrangement or negotiation entered into by others on behalf of the state, urged members and the public to disregard contrary claims.
The statement comes amid reported disputes over the SDP’s national leadership. Husaini said the Bauchi chapter remains committed to the rule of law, due process, and the supremacy of duly constituted party structures, with a focus on institution building, party cohesion, and the advancement of democratic values.
He also announced a change in venue for the party’s upcoming National Convention.
Previously slated for Bauchi, the convention will now hold in Abuja, as communicated to INEC. The party has also released its official schedule of activities, including the convention and primaries, under Gabam’s leadership.
“Any action to the contrary amounts to contempt of court and will be treated as such,” Hussaini warned.
