Women and adolescent girls in the Goli Community, Miri Ward, Bauchi Local Government Area, Bauchi State, have been advised to speak out when their rights are trampled; they should do so to protect themselves and demand justice.
This appeal was made by the Imperial Women Initiative (IWI), a Bauchi-based NGO, during a sensitisation event commemorating International Women’s Day 2026.
The event, themed “Rights, Justice, and Action for Women and Girls”, aimed to raise awareness on women’s rights, access to justice, and protection against violence, particularly for vulnerable women.
More than 100 participants, including women, men, youth, children, and community leaders, attended the event.
Speakers emphasised the importance of promoting gender equality, raising awareness of rights, and driving community action.
IWI Executive Director Victoria Ayodele Fajimi highlighted the dignity and value of women, urging them to recognise their worth and speak out against violence.
A representative from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Barrister Nuru Sulaiman, emphasised key rights, including education, economic empowerment, and access to justice.
He encouraged women to reach their full potential and report rights violations, emphasising collective responsibility in protecting human rights.
The event included discussions, experience-sharing, and distribution of sanitary materials and refreshments.
It successfully raised awareness of women’s rights and strengthened community commitment to preventing violence and promoting peaceful coexistence.
