ABUJA – Hon. Nafiu Bala, the self-acclaimed interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), resigned from his position as Deputy National Chairman of the party two months ago.
Bala’s resignation was contained in a letter dated 18 May 2025 and addressed to the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Personally signed by him, the letter confirmed his decision to step down from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
A copy of the letter, titled ‘Letter of Resignation as Deputy National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’, was obtained by Vanguard in Abuja on Thursday night.
In the letter, he clarified that his resignation did not signify abandonment of the party, and expressed his willingness to serve in other capacities if called upon.
It reads: “I, Nafiu Bala, do hereby write to notify you of my resignation as member of the National Working Committee of our great party, African Democratic Congress with effect from 26 May, 2025.
“My resignation is to make way for a smooth and effective coalition and restructuring. My resignation does not in any way mean that I am abandoning the party, so I would be ready to serve in any other capacity I may be called upon in the future.
“While I thank you for the opportunity afforded me to serve our great party, please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”
Earlier on Thursday, Bala declared himself the interim national chairman of the ADC during a press conference in Abuja on 31 July 2025.
He accused the David Mark-led faction of illegally hijacking the party’s leadership and violating its constitution by surrendering control to political outsiders, including prominent opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
