Canada Eliminated South Africa With A Dramatic Late Goal

Canada earned a historic spot in the FIFA World Cup round of sixteen with a thrilling 1-0 victory over South Africa. After both teams fought hard throughout the game, Stephen Eustaquio scored the game-winning goal well into stoppage time.

Before the Porto midfielder scored a spectacular first-time goal into the bottom corner, the match appeared to be headed for extra time. South African keeper Ronwen Williams and a resolute defence repeatedly denied Canada’s numerous clear opportunities.

South Africa also made a counterattack, but they were unable to take advantage of their opportunities.

Alphonso Davies, the captain of Canada, came back from injury as a second-half substitute and boosted his team’s attack right away. In the final moments, his arrival increased the pressure on the South African defence. Eustaquio’s game-winning goal was ultimately the result of a crucial cross from Jacob Shaffelburg.

For the first time in their World Cup history, Canada advances to the round of 16, where they will play either Morocco or the Netherlands.

After giving up in the final seconds of the game, South Africa’s stellar World Cup campaign came to an abrupt end.
