COAS Deploys Special Forces to Plateau State

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion of special forces to Plateau State.

The troops, who are already in the state, are expected to respond to the recent surge in terrorist attacks with vigour and determination. The troops, already in the state, are tasked to aggressively and decisively address the recent resurgence of terrorist attacks.

According to a press release posted on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Tuesday and signed by Captain Chinonso Oteh, the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace Media Information Officer, the action could be revolutionary in addressing regional insecurity.

According to the statement, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has given his approval for the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion of special forces to be sent to Plateau State right away.

“The troops were welcomed at Headquarters 3 Division by Major General Folusho Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, who was represented by Brigadier General Senlong Sule, the Chief of Staff, Operation ENDURING PEACE. He urged the troops to be decisive and ruthless in carrying out offensive operations against the terrorists.”

Oyinlola called on the soldiers to launch offensive operations against terrorists with decisiveness and brutality.

The 2026 deployment takes place in the midst of a resurgence of violence in the north-central area.

The day after, there were rumours of planned attacks. On February 7, four people—including a woman—were reported killed by suspected Fulani militia in Ding’ak village, Mushere district of Bokkos LGA.

Major General Oyinlola, meanwhile, urged Plateau State citizens not to freak out when they see heavy military gear and massive troop movements.

In order to support operations and bring peace back to the state, he thanked the public for their ongoing support and asked them to submit timely, actionable intelligence on the whereabouts of criminal elements.
