Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), recently commissioned newly completed housing blocks for soldiers at the 6th Division in Port Harcourt, stating that the project demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of its personnel through its Soldier First initiative.
As part of ongoing efforts to improve living conditions for soldiers and their families and to raise morale across the force, the new housing blocks were unveiled on Friday.
Speaking during the commissioning, Shaibu described decent, secure, and comfortable accommodation as a key component of troop welfare, noting that soldiers perform better when they have a conducive environment in which to live with their families.
He claims that better housing not only boosts morale but also improves operational preparedness and administrative effectiveness, allowing staff to more successfully fulfil their constitutional obligations.
A motivated and well-cared-for soldier is better able to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity and react quickly to new security threats throughout the nation, according to the army chief.
In order to create a more professional, resilient, and combat-ready Nigerian Army that can satisfy the country’s security needs, he continued, consistent investment in the welfare of personnel is still essential.
Shaibu also thanked the commander-in-chief of the armed forces for his ongoing assistance to the Nigerian army by supplying resources that have enhanced operational efficacy and strengthened personnel welfare.
In an effort to improve the living conditions of soldiers serving across the nation, the current Army leadership is implementing a number of welfare-focused projects, the most recent of which is the commissioning of the housing blocks.
