COAS relocates special forces school to Nasarawa, commissions new facilities

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, on Friday laid the foundation for a Special Forces School in Doma, Nasarawa State, as part of efforts to enhance the Nigerian Army’s capacity to confront emerging security threats.

The project, described by the Army as a strategic step to sharpen combat capabilities, will serve as the primary training ground for elite troops deployed in complex and unconventional battlefields.

The school, initially sited in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, is being relocated to Doma to provide what military authorities said is a more suitable environment for advanced training. The former facility will now function as the Nigerian Army Acclimatisation Centre, preparing soldiers for operations in the North-East.

At the foundation-laying ceremony, Lt. Gen. Oluyede said the school was conceived to raise “highly skilled warriors” and reaffirmed his administration’s focus on modern training and equipment.

In addition to the new school, the COAS also commissioned the 4 Special Forces Command Headquarters and a new Officers’ Mess in Doma, which includes operational offices, conference facilities and welfare amenities.

Earlier in Lafia, Oluyede visited the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, where he stressed the importance of civilian-military collaboration in tackling insecurity. Governor Sule, in response, praised the Army’s role in stabilising the state and supporting agriculture and mining activities despite regional challenges.

The event ended with a tree-planting ceremony and a presentation of gifts to the Army Chief by the Andoma of Doma.
