Chief Chris Onyekachi, the new chairman of Igboeze North Local Government Council, Enugu State, has urged the newly elected councillors to be dedicated in their legislative duties.
Onyekachi gave the charge in Ogrute, the council headquarters of Igboeze-North, on Thursday during the inauguration of the 20 councillors.
He said the legislative arm of the government was expected to do its work diligently and in synergy with the executive in order to move the council to greater heights.
“I congratulate you on your election as the councillors from your various wards.
“My vision is to work with all my strength to move the council to a greater height, so I expect all the councillors to work in synergy with me to achieve this vision,” he said.
He advised the about-to-be-elected leadership of the legislature to ensure that it carried all the councillors along.
Solomon Ojiri, the Chairman of APC in Igboeze North, urged the councillors to work as a team in order to make bylaws that would positively impact the people of the area.
It was reported that the oath of office and oath of allegiance were administered to the councillors by Dukwu Gowon, the Chief Magistrate of Enugu State.
Shortly after the inauguration of the councillors, they conducted their first sitting, in which the councillors elected M. Emmanuel Ugwu, from Umuitodo Ward 3, as the leader of the Igboeze-North Legislative Council along with other principal officers.
Speaking with newsmen, the new leader of the legislative council, Ugwu, commended his fellow councillors for the trust and confidence they have in him.
He pledged to carry everybody along in the discharge of his duties, adding that councillors would work harmoniously with the executive arm.
“We commend the council chairman, who has been carrying us along, right from the campaign to the election and even after the election.
“The legislative arm is fully ready to work with the chairman in his vision to leave Igboeze-north LG better than he met it,” he added.
It was reported that the councillors’ inauguration was attended by their families, friends and well-wishers as well as influential personalities in the Igboeze North Local Government Area.
