The Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Immigration Service, and other security agencies have received praise from Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR), a faith-based civil society organisation, for their coordinated efforts to provide security cover for the Nigerian Hajj contingent during the 2026 Hajj.
IHR praised the surveillance operation designed to guarantee the safe passage of more than 40,000 Nigerian pilgrims both inside and outside the nation in a statement signed on Saturday by its national coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammad.
Hajj activities include pilgrims moving from their homes to pilgrims’ orientation centres and Hajj camps, travelling between states to depart from airports in other states, and landing and boarding at more than 14 embarkation points throughout Nigeria.
According to IHR, “the combined presence and participation of veiled security personnel contributed a lot to carrying out these activities without any serious incident throughout the 2026 Hajj period.”
It will be recalled that Independent Hajj Reporters awarded recognition to the DSS, Nigeria Police Force, and Nigerian Immigration Service during its post-Hajj lectures in 2023, 2024, and 2025, respectively, for their exceptional service during Hajj operations.
To stop terrorists and other wanted individuals from using pilgrimage arrangements to travel overseas, the CSO urged security agencies to continue gathering intelligence and thoroughly screening pilgrims performing the Hajj and Umrah.
Following their arrival, some security-risk individuals were recently arrested in Katsina as a result of ongoing coordination and surveillance. “Security agencies are urged to keep up the pace.”
