Edo Assembly Candidate Promises Women, Youth Employment

Osamede Edebiri, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Oredo East Constituency in the 2027 Edo House of Assembly election, has promised to prioritise women and youth empowerment if elected.

Edebiri gave the assurance in an interview on Tuesday in Benin, saying he had a clear agenda to empower women and youths in his constituency.

He said empowering women would translate to empowering families, adding that he would support deserving women with non-refundable grants to establish small businesses.

“From time to time, I will be supporting women financially to start up their businesses.

“These are deserving women who need the money to start up their lives. I believe that when you empower a woman, you empower the family,” he said.

On youth development, Edebiri said his empowerment agenda would cater to both skilled and unskilled youths.

He explained that unskilled youths interested in learning a trade would be enrolled in vocational training programmes, including furniture making and hairdressing.

He said he would also sign apprenticeship agreements on their behalf and provide transportation support to enable them to concentrate on their training.

For skilled youths, Edebiri said he would nurture and promote their skills to enhance self-reliance.“We will take it up, nurture them and see how they will be able to realise their dream,” he said.

The candidate also promised to maintain regular engagement with his constituents and provide quality representation if elected.

He said the role of a legislator went beyond sponsoring bills and moving motions to include facilitating infrastructure projects for the benefit of constituents.
