ABUJA – Residents of the Kado area in Abuja have reported a building collapse on Sarah Ezekwe Street, near the Kado Fish Market.
While details are still emerging, the incident has not yet been officially confirmed by emergency services.
Development Control officials in the Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA and Fire Services in the Territory did not immediately respond to Vanguard’s enquiries.
Social media posts, including one from a contact on X (formerly Twitter), suggest the collapse happened on Saturday evening.
However, neither the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) nor other official bodies have released a statement.
It is unclear at this time if there are any casualties or how many people may be trapped inside the rubble.
A motorist who passed the area late Saturday told Vanguard that he saw residents gathered at the scene and an earth moving machine at about 10pm.
Building collapses are a frequent problem in Abuja and other parts of Nigeria, often attributed to the use of poor-quality materials, lack of adherence to building codes, and unregulated construction practices.
