FG Constructs Drainages to Prevent Flooding Along Bauchi-Darazo Road

The Federal Government has constructed drains and culverts along the Bauchi-Darazo road to address perennial flooding and protect the road.

Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Works, Mohammed Ahmed Abdullahi, stated this during a media tour and commissioning of the project in Kasauke and Konkiyel communities of Darazo Local Government Area, Bauchi State.

“We’re in Bauchi State today, in continuation of our nationwide media tour and commissioning of emergency road projects carried out by the federal government of Nigeria,” the director said.

“The project is the construction of drains and culverts to address the issues of perennial flooding, just like the one we commissioned in the Konkiyel community of the Darazo local government area of Bauchi State earlier,” he further said.

According to him, the project is part of 260 emergency projects initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make roads motorable and enhance transportation.

“The drains and culverts will protect the federal government’s investment, ensure road safety, and boost socio-economic activities in the region,” he explained.

He stated that the initiative is aimed at protecting the federal government’s investment and that the road connects Bauchi State to Yobe and Borno States.

On his part, the federal Controller of the Ministry of Works in charge of Bauchi State, Adamu Bashir, said the project is also aimed at addressing the devastating effect of flooding within the benefitting communities.

He stated that road infrastructure and transportation are enablers of growth, which form part of the present government’s priority due to their socio-economic impact on Nigerians.

“The federal ministry of works designs structures such as drains and culverts, among others, to address the effect of flooding and also counter the effect of global warming and climate change,” he further said.

Also speaking, the vice chairman of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, Bauchi branch, Engr Shehu Wakili, described the initiative as very important, especially in the area of protecting roads and providing security for the communities.

“We really appreciate the present administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the gesture because it will enhance the transportation aspect within the Northeast due to its strategic position, which links the Northeast and other parts of Nigeria.

He said that without the drainage system and the culverts, the road will be blocked and movements of goods and services will be hindered.

The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umar Sa’idu, who commissioned the project, called on the communities to provide vegetation along the road through the planting of trees in order to add more protection to the road.
