The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gusau is pleased to announce the successful installation of 122 solar-powered streetlights, donated by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
Naziru A. Tukur, PhD, Information & Public Relations Officer, Federal Medical Centre, stated this in a statement issued to journalists today in Gusau.
According to the statement, this significant infrastructure upgrade followed a formal request by the centre’s medical director, Dr Bello A. Mohammed, to enhance the facility’s environment.
The intervention included the supply of complete solar lighting units. REA provided high-efficiency photovoltaic solar panels, LED lamps, brackets and clamps, ensuring a robust and sustainable lighting solution across the entire hospital premises.
Transforming the Patient Experience
The newly installed units are positioned at strategic locations, providing immediate and significant improvements to the hospital’s illumination. This project has transformed the facility into a more serene and accessible environment, particularly during nighttime hours.
Key benefits of the solar lighting project include operational continuity, guaranteeing reliable lighting during power outages and ensuring critical healthcare services continue without disruption.
It aimed to reduce the hospital’s overall electricity costs and significantly lower its dependence on expensive diesel-powered generators, enhancing safety and improving security for patients, staff, and visitors, making movement across the premises safer and easier at night.
DrDr. Bello A. Mohammed expressed his profound appreciation to the Rural Electrification Agency for their prompt and positive response to the hospital’s needs. He noted that this partnership is a vital step to improving healthcare service delivery for the community.
Furthermore, the management of FMC Gusau remains committed to exploring further partnerships with relevant agencies and stakeholders to continue upgrading the hospital’s infrastructure and services.
