The meeting took place on Tuesday, 20th January 2026, at the Kebbi State liaison office in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, Governor Idris stated that the committee’s terms of reference include reviewing proposals from the Ministry of Livestock Development on converting grazing reserves into communal ranches. He added that the committee would also examine the report and recommendations of the Presidential Livestock Reform Implementation Committee (PLRIC) towards effective livestock development in Nigeria.

Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, the chairman explained that the committee would identify interested states for the implementation of communal ranches, review existing livestock policies, and recommend necessary reforms to strengthen the sector.

Governor Idris further disclosed that the committee would identify Public-Private Partnership (PPP) opportunities across the livestock exports and increase the sector’s contribution to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
