Gov Mutfwang Applauds FG’s Food Support In Plateau

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has praised the federal government’s launch of the Presidential Emergency Food and Nutrition distribution in Plateau State, describing the initiative as a vital lifeline for citizens navigating national economic reforms.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Jos on Monday, the governor emphasised that while Nigerians await the long-term results of major policy changes, the immediate priority remains ensuring that no one goes hungry.

He highlighted the event as a symbol of newfound political unity, noting the collaboration between the state government and federal officials as a significant step forward for the region.

The minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction, Dr Bernard M. Doro, led the distribution, which serves as the grand finale of a nationwide intervention targeting those most affected by climate shocks and economic hardship.

Doro, who considers Plateau his home, explained that this support is anchored in the “One Humanitarian–One Poverty Response System”.

This framework aims to break the cycle of dependency by linking emergency relief to long-term pathways, such as integrating beneficiaries into the National Social Register for cash transfers and skill development.

In addition to the federal aid, Governor Mutfwang announced state-level plans to distribute subsidised fertiliser to local farmers, reaffirming Plateau’s responsibility as the nation’s “food basket”.

This state effort aligns with the presidency’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, mentioned, noting an inclusion of a N25 billion special programme for vulnerable communities.

Goshwe further detailed the administration’s social protection milestones, ranging from health insurance for four million households to student loan support for nearly one million students.

minister Our correspondent reports that the official start of the distribution exercise began across the state at the ceremony,, with the minister underscoring that the mission is about more than just immediate meals; it is a coordinated national strategy to restore dignity and rebuild livelihoods.

By focusing on women, children, and the elderly, the government aims to ensure that the most impacted citizens are not left behind as the country moves toward a more stable economic future.
