Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has called on officers of the Nigeria Police Force in the state to remain professional, impartial and committed to the rule of law in the discharge of their duties, particularly following the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections.
The governor made the call on Monday during a security meeting held at the Nasarawa State Police Command Headquarters in Lafia, where he addressed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Area Commanders, Squadron Commanders and other senior police officers.
Governor Sule commended the police for their role in maintaining peace and security across the state, noting that the prevailing stability has continued to position Nasarawa as one of Nigeria’s most attractive destinations for investment.
Reaffirming his commitment to democratic principles, the governor stressed that he would never direct security agencies to manipulate electoral processes while urging officers to avoid actions capable of creating the impression of bias against members of the ruling APC.
“I will be the last person to tell the police to go and rig elections for me. I will never do that. But it will be sad if you protect other people and victimise people of the APC. I plead with you to be as neutral as you can while protecting everybody,” he stated.
Governor Sule emphasised that security remains a critical factor in attracting investors to the state, revealing that he recently highlighted Nasarawa’s peaceful environment during an investment presentation in Lagos.
Addressing concerns over the proposed establishment of state police, the governor assured officers that there was no immediate threat to their careers, explaining that the initiative remains at a preliminary stage and would require constitutional amendments, legislative approvals, establishment of legal frameworks, recruitment and funding before becoming operational.
“There is no reason for any policeman to panic. This is a process that has just commenced and may not even take full effect within the one year I have left in office. I want you to work full swing. Do not relax,” he said.
The governor further disclosed that the state government would increase logistical support to security agencies, attributing the move to improved revenues accruing to states through the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, while the administration continues to invest in infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth empowerment and job creation, security personnel must also benefit from government interventions aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shettima Jauro, expressed appreciation to the Sule administration for its sustained support of the command.
He cited the renovation of the command headquarters, construction of seven additional buildings, procurement of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other operational logistics as evidence of the government’s commitment to strengthening security infrastructure.
The police commissioner also highlighted recent operational successes recorded by the command, including the arrest of suspects involved in the abduction of five women in Nasarawa Local Government Area on May 31, 2026.
He further disclosed that police operatives intercepted three suspects on June 2, 2026, recovering 27 rifles, five rounds of live ammunition, two arrows, 240 caps and 27 sheep, while two additional suspects linked to kidnapping activities in Andaha, Akwanga Local Government Area, were arrested in a separate operation.
CP Jauro appealed for more operational vehicles to enhance the mobility of tactical units and assured the governor of the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and continued collaboration with other security agencies to sustain peace and security across the state.
