Group Alleges Selective use of EFCC Against Bauchi Governor Mohammed

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has alleged that anti-corruption agencies, particularly the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), have been selective in their operations.

Umar Lauya, NYCN National Vice President, who made this known during a press conference on Friday in Bauchi, said the perception of selective justice generates unnecessary tension, fuels political instability, and diverts attention from governance and development.

He accused the commission of selective prosecution against opposition-led administrations in Bauchi State and other Northern states.

The NYCN is calling for institutional neutrality in EFCC operations, equal accountability across parties, and protection of democratic space and opposition rights,” he said.

Lauya also urged economic policies prioritizing Nigerians, a review of tax policies, and formal court proceedings for pending political cases within 14 days.

The group condemned politicization of insecurity, blame-shifting between governments, and harsh tax policies exacerbating hardship.

Umar Lauya urged prioritization of citizens’ welfare, grassroots development, and accountable governance.
