Hold your Senators responsible, Shehu Sani charges Nigerians

Former lawmaker and rights activist Shehu Sani has weighed in on the growing outrage over reports that the Senate rejected the real-time electronic transmission of election results.

The decision, which sparked widespread outrage on social media, has sparked criticism from Nigerians, including the opposition party, ADC, who fear it will undermine transparency in future elections. The decision, which created widespread backlash on social media, has drawn criticism from Nigerians, including the opposition party, ADC, who fear it could undermine transparency in future elections.

Sani responded to the controversy on his social media page, urging Nigerians to channel their rage appropriately. He believes that citizens should hold their individual senators accountable rather than blaming the president or the Senate president.

“Lawmakers have rejected real-time electronic transmission of results. “If you like what they did or dislike what they did, you should be brave enough to go to the social media handle of the lawmaker representing your constituency and express your joy or displeasure,” he wrote.

Sani emphasised that the President and Senate President should not be the primary targets of public outrage, noting that they each represent specific constituencies, just like any other senator.

“Don’t focus on the President or Akpabio, who only represents a district in Akwa Ibom. Be brave enough to mention your senator’s name in your handle. “Everyone is an adult there,” he said.
