House Minority Caucus Urges Unity, Renewed Commitment as Nigeria Enters 2026

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, resilience, and renewed commitment to national development as the country enters the year 2026.

In a New Year message issued Thursday in Abuja, the caucus congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora for witnessing the dawn of a new year despite the socio-economic and security challenges that characterized 2025.

The statement was jointly signed by the Minority Leader, Rep. O.K. Chinda; Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. Ali Isa J.C.; Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Aliyu Madaki; and Deputy Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi.

The lawmakers noted that the past year was marked by rising insecurity, economic hardship, inflation, unemployment, and widespread poverty, which, according to them, posed serious setbacks to national development.

They stressed that the prevailing situation underscored the urgent need for decisive and people-oriented governance, particularly in addressing insecurity, economic instability, and infrastructural deficits.

“The situation of the country in 2025 was worrisome and deeply concerning. The rising wave of insecurity, coupled with economic challenges, placed enormous strain on citizens and threatened national stability,” the caucus stated.

The Minority Caucus urged the Federal Government to adopt sincere, deliberate, and strategic approaches in tackling insecurity, youth unemployment, and corruption, stressing that meaningful development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and safety.

The lawmakers further emphasized that nation-building requires collective effort, calling on leaders at all levels to demonstrate commitment, sincerity, and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.

While acknowledging Nigeria’s diversity, the caucus described it as a source of strength rather than division, urging citizens to harness the country’s pluralism to build a more inclusive and prosperous nation.

“No tribe, region, or group can build Nigeria alone. Our progress lies in unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility,” the statement read.

The Minority Caucus also called on Nigerians to recommit themselves to the values of peaceful coexistence, national cohesion, and patriotism, noting that the future of the country depends on the collective will of its people to rise above differences and work towards common goals.

Reaffirming its legislative responsibility, the caucus pledged to remain steadfast in advancing policies and interventions aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians and strengthening democratic governance.
