Human Rights Group Calls for Suspension of Tax Reform Acts Over Alleged Discrepancies

The Centre for African Human Rights, Peace, and Development has called for the immediate suspension of the Tax Reform Acts, which were signed into law by President Bola Tinubu and are set to take effect on January 1, 2026.

This call was made in a press release signed by Scholar MK Suleiman, Chief Human Rights Field Officer and Executive Director, and shared with the media in Bauchi on Tuesday.

The organization claims that the tax reform laws signed by the president differ from those passed by the National Assembly. This allegation was reportedly made by Hon. Abdulsamad Dasuki during a plenary session of the National Assembly.

The group is urging the National Assembly to conduct a joint investigation into these alleged discrepancies, stating, “Nigeria is greater than any political party affiliation or group.”

Concerns about the implementation of the Tax Reform Acts have prompted calls for oversight to ensure that the laws align with the version approved by the National Assembly.
