The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Sokoto state Secretariat has on Thursday announced that its much-awaited Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will commence on Monday, August 18, 2025, with the online registration phase through the commission’s dedicated portal https://necnigeria.org

The Sokoto state electoral commissioner of the electoral umpire Alhaji Umar Yusuf Garba while briefing journalists said, the physical phase of the exercise will begin on Monday, August 25, 2025, at all INEC state offices and local government area offices nationwide, where biometric capturing and verification will be carried out.

He emphasized that the CVR is strictly for Nigerians who have not previously registered, have attained the age of 18 years, or those who have changed their residential address. The Commission warned that anyone already in possession of a valid Permanent Voter Card (PVC) should not attempt fresh registration, stressing that multiple registration is a grave electoral offence and punishable under the law.

Furthermore, the Commissioner appealed to all registered voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to visit their respective local government INEC offices and claim them without delay. It stressed that both registration and collection of PVCs must be done in person and not by proxy.

He said in a bid to ensure massive participation, INEC called on political parties, civil society organizations, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and the media to join hands in mobilizing and sensitizing eligible Nigerians about the importance of the exercise.

He also reassured citizens that all necessary logistics and materials have been provided to guarantee a seamless exercise across the country, while urging patience and cooperation from the public during the process.

“With the 2027 general elections already on the horizon, the Commission reiterated that the CVR exercise represents a critical opportunity for all eligible Nigerians yet to register to secure their right to vote.”
