The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned consumers in the country not to patronise foreign sugar, flour, spaghetti, macaroni and vegetable oil.
NAFDAC’s Director of Post-Marketing Surveillance, Fraden Bitrus, who stated this after visiting Wuse and Garki Markets in Abuja for a sensitisation exercise, expressed his shock at seeing, on display, products on the prohibition list of the Nigeria Customs and Excise Service.
According to him, sugar, spaghetti and macaroni products produced in Nigeria contain vitamin A, which is very helpful to the eyes.
He said the agency’s director-general has written to their state branches in all markets around the country to avoid selling products on the customs prohibition lists.
The director said during his visits to the two markets in Abuja, his team noticed that packaged bottled water which was supposed to be placed in cool places was placed under the sun, adding that such a condition might affect the plastic into releasing axioms that might cause cancer.
While warning people in the country to always patronise Nigerian-produced products, Bitrus said such products have been properly investigated and certified for consumption by NAFDAC.
