NUJ FCT Council Urges Unity, Credible Leadership as FRCN Chapel Installs New Executives

Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has called on members of the NUJ FRCN Headquarters Chapel to uphold unity, transparency and professionalism as they elect new leaders.

Represented by the treasurer of the council, Comrade Sandra Chukwugekwu, the NUJ FCT chairman, Ike, gave the charge during the chapel’s election held at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, headquarters in Abuja.

She commended the outgoing leadership led by Comrade Tersoo Zamber for sustaining the ideals of journalism, including integrity, professionalism and unity.

“Elections such as this are vital in strengthening our union and deepening democratic values within our ranks,” she stated, urging members to conduct themselves with fairness and sportsmanship.

The chairman reaffirmed the commitment of the council to the growth of its chapels, saying that the council would continue to support initiatives that enhance the welfare and professional development of members.

Speaking further, Comrade Ike applauded the increased participation of members in union activities and encouraged sustained engagement, particularly with upcoming programmes such as the NUJ FCT Council Easter Cantata, taking place on the 2nd of April, 2026.

At the end of the exercise, Comrade Daniel Adejo emerged as Chairman of the NUJ FRCN Headquarters Chapel.

Other elected officials include Stephen Esabu as Vice Chairman; Hassan Hussain, Secretary; Samuel Adeyinka, Assistant Secretary; Sunday Igoche, Auditor; and Muzha Kucha, Financial Secretary.

In his acceptance speech, Adejo expressed appreciation to members for their confidence, describing the election as a collective victory, saying, “This moment is not merely a personal achievement; it is a collective victory for all of us. It reflects the strength of our unity and the enduring democratic values that define this union.”

He pledged that his administration would prioritise members’ welfare and professionalism.

“The well-being of our members is paramount and non-negotiable. We will engage constructively with management to ensure that the rights, dignity, and welfare of every member are protected and enhanced,” Adejo assured.

He also promised to focus on capacity building and ethical journalism, stressing the need for journalists to remain credible in a rapidly evolving media landscape.

“At a time when the credibility of the media is under scrutiny worldwide, we must stand firm as defenders of truth, accuracy, fairness, and balance,” he added.

Adejo further assured members of transparent and inclusive leadership, noting that their voices would be heard in decision-making processes.

The election signals a new chapter for the NUJ FRCN Headquarters Chapel, with expectations of improved welfare, stronger unity, and enhanced professionalism among members.
