Obi Reaffirms Unwavering Commitment to Rescue Nigeria

The Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections, Peter Obi, has reiterated his unwavering commitment to rescuing Nigeria from its prevailing state of anomie and wastefulness, insisting that a new Nigeria is possible.

The NDC presidential candidate stated this at the weekend while speaking at a town hall meeting in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Addressing the mammoth crowd of enthusiastic party members, Obi expressed profound gratitude to Ndi Imo for their overwhelming turnout, solidarity and enthusiastic reception. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to rescuing Nigeria from its prevailing economic difficulties, worsening insecurity and governance deficiencies.

He emphasised that the transformation of Nigeria would require a deliberate departure from wasteful governance towards prudent resource management, institutional accountability and strategic investment in critical sectors, particularly education, healthcare and productive enterprise. He further stressed the imperative of transitioning Nigeria from a consumption-dependent economy to a robust, production-driven economy capable of generating employment, stimulating growth and restoring national prosperity.

Reiterating his defining message, “A New Nigeria Is Possible”, Obi expressed confidence that with visionary leadership, fiscal discipline and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of citizens, Nigeria could reclaim its rightful position as a nation of immense promise and opportunity.

In his remarks, Senator Victor Umeh underscored the imperative of equity, justice and fairness in Nigeria’s political and developmental architecture, particularly with regard to the legitimate aspirations of the South-East.

He maintained that national cohesion could only be achieved through genuine inclusiveness, equitable representation and a governance structure that recognised and accommodated the interests of all constituent parts of the federation.

In his welcome address, the NDC Imo State Chairman, Chief Reginald Uwakwe, warmly received the presidential candidate and his entourage, reaffirming the unity, organisational cohesion and electoral preparedness of the party in the state.

He assured the presidential candidate that the Imo State chapter was strategically positioned and fully mobilised to deliver over 1.5 million votes for the NDC in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

The event attracted an array of distinguished political personalities and party stakeholders, including the Imo State Coordinator of the Presidential Campaign Council, Chief Martins Agbaso (Ochoudo); a member of the NDC Presidential Campaign Advisory Council, Chief Achike Udenwa; members of the State Working Committee (SWC); and all NDC candidates contesting for seats in the Imo State House of Assembly, the National Assembly and local government elections.

Representatives of the Obidient Movement, the Kwankwasiyya Movement, market women, students, artisans and civil society organisations, among others, also attended.
