Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo has urged residents of the state to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying the ongoing economic reforms are beginning to translate into development and improved governance.
Okpebholo appealed while addressing His Royal Highness (HRH) Zaiki Anselm Aidenojie II, Ojuromi of Uromi and party members at the palace of the traditional ruler on Wednesday.
The governor highlighted his administration’s achievements to include roads, upgrading of healthcare centres, regular payments of salaries, and schools, among others.
According to him, most of the works the state is undertaking will not manifest in one day; it takes time because it involves construction.
“Like so many roads have been done, we started so many in different areas, which will help ease movement and improve economic activities in Edo.
“We are also looking at a 100-megawatt plant, which we expect to come on stream soon in Edo South, that will help to stabilise power supply.
“We have another one that will give us 16 megawatts. These projects are part of our efforts to address the power problem in the state.
“The man driving that success is the President; that is why I am here to tell you that I do not want Edo to be in opposition to this government because of the progress we are already making,” he said.
Okpebholo also disclosed that his administration was working to address electricity challenges, including efforts to improve power supply through planned and ongoing energy projects.
He described the removal of the petrol subsidy and other economic reforms of Tinubu’s administration as a bold decision which no other former president made.
He revealed that the reforms were necessary to address longstanding economic problems.
Earlier, the traditional ruler commended the governor for coming to seek his blessings, and prayed that God would continue to give wisdom to pilot the affairs of the state.
Aidenojie, who described the governor as his son, assured him that the anticipated eight years of his administration would be completed.
