Olariche Assumes Duty As the 18th NSCDC Commandant in Akwa Ibom

Jonathan Olariche has assumed duty as the 18th commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) command in Akwa Ibom.

Speaking to newsmen in Uyo on Monday, Olariche urged officers and men of the command to rededicate themselves to duty in the interest of effective service delivery.

The commandant, who earlier had his maiden briefing with NSCDC personnel in the command, vowed to protect government critical infrastructure in the state.

Olariche further said that his assumption of duty as NSCDC helmsman in Akwa Ibom marked the ‘dawn of a new paradigm’.

According to him, leadership development, core mandate advancement, capacity building and empowerment will be given priority attention.

The NSCDC official said that effective security should entail exemplary, accountable, and forward-thinking leadership.

“Leadership is not about status; it should be measured by performance, responsiveness, and the protection of the citizenry,” he said.

He urged officers and men of the command to cooperate and show commitment to duty in order to achieve set objectives.

“Let us renew our mindset. Let us embrace mutual collaboration and respect for authorities.

“We cannot expect new results with old habits. Let us exude discipline, dedication, and professional renewal,” he said.

Olariche said that under his watch, the command would clampdown on oil thieves and vandals of critical national assets.

He urged Akwa Ibom people to support the corps with reliable intelligence to ensure an effective campaign against oil theft and vandalism of national assets.

“Security is a collective responsibility. Our doors are ever open for constructive collaboration, intelligence sharing, and mutual respect,” he said.

It was reported that Olariche succeeds Mrs Geraldine Abetianbe, who has been redeployed to NSCDC Zonal Headquarters, Port Harcourt.
