The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), an organisation affiliated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has asserted that a strategic alliance between the Middle Belt and Southern Nigeria is the only viable path to unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
During a strategy conference held in Jos on Tuesday titled “Nigeria at Crossroads: Building the Green Coalition for 2027”, the group emphasised that a southern candidate must lead a united front to ensure national acceptability.
Prince Rwang Pam Jnr, the group’s coordinator, presented a communiqué highlighting that national elections are won through broad-based coalitions rather than isolated regional groupings.
The coalition argues that the Middle Belt serves as a decisive electoral bridge, and its alignment with the South offers a credible alternative to steer the country toward economic prosperity and stability.
By prioritising fairness and inclusion, the group believes it can restore public trust in leadership that has recently been eroded.
The conference participants reached a consensus that leadership arrangements reflecting justice and regional balance are essential for national cohesion.
The communiqué further explained that any political platform seeking to govern must demonstrate equity within its own internal structures.
According to the coalition, disregarding the public’s expectation for inclusive leadership often results in a significant loss of electoral support, making a balanced ticket a necessity rather than an option.
Ultimately, the group positioned the Middle Belt as an evolved, conscious political power that no longer seeks to contest power in isolation.
By proactively shaping the direction of a national alliance, the region aims to maximise its influence and ensure the next administration reflects a genuine sense of belonging for all Nigerians.
The resolution resulted in a firm commitment to the strategic partnership as the most effective way to challenge the current political status quo.
