PDP Sets 2026 Primary, Convention Timetable, Approves E-Membership Rollout

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially unveiled its timetable for the 2026 primaries and national convention, while also approving a nationwide electronic membership registration to strengthen party structures and grassroots participation.

This announcement followed the 106th meeting of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC), held on Wednesday in Abuja, and read to the press by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed.

After extensive deliberations, the NEC commended the caretaker committee led by Hon. Abdur Rahman Mohammed “for its commitment and efforts in stabilising the party and guiding its affairs during this transitional period.”

The committee’s efforts were described as pivotal in ensuring smooth operations amid ongoing internal political developments.

The NEC expressed satisfaction over the successful conduct of ward and local government congresses across the country, noting that they were largely peaceful and transparent.

The committee also expressed confidence that the state congresses scheduled for the weekend would adhere strictly to the party’s constitution and guidelines.

Further, the NEC approved the conduct of zonal congresses set to take place within the fortnight, describing them as critical steps in the party’s orderly progression toward the 2026 national convention. This, the NEC said, demonstrates the PDP’s commitment to structured internal democracy.

Welcoming recent Court of Appeal rulings affirming the leadership and authority of the National Caretaker Committee, the NEC noted that the judicial pronouncements had “strengthened the constitutional processes and stability of the party.” This was seen as a reinforcement of the caretaker committee’s mandate.

The NEC also emphasized the urgent need for reconciliation, unity, and collective responsibility among all leaders and stakeholders, adding that the strength of the PDP “lies in its ability to resolve internal disagreements through dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to party structures.”

In line with these objectives, the NEC called on all parties involved in disputes to embrace reconciliation and refrain from pursuing further litigation, including any attempts to move matters to the Supreme Court, stressing that such actions could undermine party unity and stability.

A major highlight of the meeting was the approval of the commencement and expansion of the party’s electronic membership registration, described as a move to modernize the membership database, enhance transparency, and strengthen grassroots participation across the federation.

The NEC reaffirmed preparations for the national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, 2026, where a new National Working Committee will be elected in accordance with the party’s constitution. Committees for the convention, including Electoral, Accreditation, Security, Media, and Protocol, were formally confirmed.

Regarding the 2027 general elections, the NEC acknowledged the revised timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under the Electoral Act 2026.

The PDP confirmed compliance with the INEC timetable, including the submission of its register of members to the commission.

The NEC also strongly condemned the attack by hoodlums on members during the recent congresses in Oyo State, describing the incident as “unfortunate and unacceptable, and contrary to the democratic values and peaceful conduct expected within the party’s processes.”

Security agencies were also called upon to investigate and bring perpetrators to justice.

The meeting concluded with a renewed call for unity, discipline, and focus among all party organs and members.

The NEC reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to democratic principles, national unity, good governance, and the welfare of Nigerians, assuring citizens that the party remains the most credible platform for responsible leadership and national development.
