President Tinubu Appoints AIG Tunji Disu as Acting IGP

Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has been named Acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The appointment is effective immediately, according to a statement released by Bayo Onanuga.

According to Onanuga, this came after Kayode Egbetokun resigned.

“Earlier today, President Tinubu accepted Mr Egbetokun’s resignation and conveyed his sincere gratitude for his decades of outstanding service to the Nigeria Police Force and the country.”

“During his tenure, the president recognised his professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to bolstering the internal security architecture.”

According to the revised provisions of the Police Act, Egbetokun was appointed in June 2023 and was serving a four-year term that ended in June 2027.

The president is certain that AIG Disu’s operational depth, experience, and proven leadership ability will give the Nigeria Police Force consistent and targeted guidance during this crucial time, Onanuga continued.

President Tinubu will soon call a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider AIG Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General of Police in accordance with the provisions of the Police Act 2020. Following this, his name will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.

The president restates his administration’s steadfast dedication to bolstering institutional capacity, improving national security, and making sure the Nigeria Police Force is competent, responsible, and well-equipped to carry out its constitutional duties.
