The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, on Tuesday led members of the House on a condolence visit following the death of Dr Chamberlain Dunkwu, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker.
Dunkwu served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
Speaking during the visit to the late aide’s residence in Abuja, Kalu expressed shock and sadness over Dunkwu’s sudden demise, describing him as a dedicated and cheerful official who served the speaker with commitment.
He noted that the loss was particularly painful because the late Dunkwu showed no signs of ill health before his passing.
According to the Deputy Speaker, many lawmakers and staff members of the National Assembly had enjoyed a warm and cordial relationship with the deceased.
Kalu said Dunkwu’s presence and dedication made a lasting impression on those who worked closely with him in the legislature.
He recalled that the late aide was present at an Iftar dinner organised by the Speaker on the eve of the news of his death, where he was seen warmly welcoming guests.
The Deputy Speaker described Dunkwu as someone whose positive energy lit up every gathering, adding that his enthusiasm for duty earned him the admiration of colleagues.
While acknowledging the pain of the loss, Kalu said the lawmakers had accepted the situation as the will of God, noting that the development serves as a reminder of the fragility of life.
He commiserated with the speaker, the deceased’s family, and members of the legislature, praying that God grant them the strength to bear the loss and eternal rest for the departed.
