Senator Shehu Buba, representing the Bauchi South Senatorial District and of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has declared his intention to contest the Bauchi State Governorship election, vowing to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2027 Governorship election in the state.
The Senator made this declaration on Tuesday at the Abuja Continental Hotel, where he purchased his nomination and expression of interest forms to contest the said election.
Speaking with newsmen at the venue, shortly after obtaining the forms, Senator Buba expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in another election, noting that “this time around, the APC will take over Bauchi State from the PDP.
“As we have seen, I am physically present to obtain my nomination forms, which I have done. I thank God for allowing us to witness another cycle of elections.”
He called on other aspirants seeking various elective positions under the party to take advantage of the now-advertised process to obtain their forms before the closing date.
When asked about his chances against the PDP, which currently governs Bauchi State, Senator Buba expressed strong confidence in the APC’s prospects, insisting that the state remains an APC stronghold despite being led by the PDP.
“We stand a very good chance of taking over Bauchi State from the ruling PDP. I am optimistic because Bauchi is an APC state, as you can attest.
“The PDP government in the state failed the people, and we have come out to reposition the state, as my aspiration is a corrective measure for the misleading governance gaps in the state.”
He further criticised the performance of the PDP-led administration in Bauchi, saying it had not met residents’ expectations.
The senator also stressed that, as the first aspirant to obtain the APC nomination form for the Bauchi governorship, it was a signal of preparedness and momentum, stating, “Being the first person to obtain the form as an aspirant, I am assuring that, if I get the ticket, we will send the PDP out,” Buba stated.
Senator Buba’s declaration sets the stage for what is expected to be a competitive primary within the APC, as other contenders are anticipated to pick forms in the coming days.
With the formal entry into the Bauchi governorship race, Senator Buba has launched his bid to return Bauchi to APC control, framing the 2027 election as a referendum on the PDP’s stewardship and a chance for the APC to reclaim the state.
It was observed that the Bauchi governorship race will be closely watched, given the state’s strategic electoral weight in the country.
