The Minister of Works, Sen David Umahi, has said that the South East geopolitical zone is now in the rightful position in the affairs of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu.
He said the President has ended marginalisation, bitterness and venomous statements in the region by carrying the people along in the scheme of things.
He stated this at the weekend while inspecting ongoing federal government projects in Ebonyi State, which link the neighbouring states of Cross River, Benue and other states of the federation.
The projects include Onueke’s first section of the 465 km trans-Saharan superhighway, where a 25-span bridge of 700 metres is also being constructed; the Onueke/Afikpo highway; the Afikpo/Ndibe beach road; the Ebonyi/Cross River beach bridge; the Amasiri/Okigwe highway, among others.
Umahi said President Tinubu has done much for the South East and urged the people of the zone to appreciate him by re-electing him in next year’s presidential election.
“Mr President has done so much for the South East, and I want you people to broadcast what he is doing for us.
“Let our people who are not here, who are on social media, know that the tide has changed, and we are now counted, and we are now at the right position in the affairs of the nation, Nigeria.
“So, no more bitterness, no more venomous statements, but appreciation so that we get more, just like other regions that appreciate and get more. So, let’s appreciate and get more and support the President’s re-election,” he said.
Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, declared that he will play a very significant role in the campaign for the president during the electioneering period as someone who has traversed all nooks and crannies of the country, ntry supervising the president’s projects for the people of the country.
He said the campaign will not affect the projects, as, according to him, he will be campaigning for the president and supervising the projects.
“Construction is part of my life, and that’s what makes me happy and keeps me fit. So, I will attend the campaign, and I will attend the project supervision.
“So, the two will be combined, and that’s why I am chasing the Ministry of Works staff so that we do all the needful before the campaign starts, because I will play a very significant role during the campaign because I have traversed all the spaces of the country, and I can attest to what the President is doing.
“Even if I wake up from sleep, I can always say this is what the President has done for each of the states or regions.
“Let me commend the Governor of the state very highly. He is the one who paid the compensation for this place because it was isolated and it was awarded before now.
“So, the governor completely paid for this; even though the Enugu/Abakaliki motorway dualisation is going on, he is the one who paid the compensation. Without that, it would have been very difficult because where the contractor has not been mobilised, there is no way he has money to pay compensation,” the minister said.
