The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has commissioned a 100-bed Renewed Hope Specialist Hospital in his Zaria Federal Constituency, describing the project as a direct response to critical healthcare needs in the area.
The hospital, located in the Dumbin Rauga community under Dutsen Abba Ward in Zaria, was facilitated through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) office.
Speaker Abbas performed the commissioning alongside the governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, noting that the facility would significantly improve residents’ access to specialised medical care.
He said the project addresses years of difficulty faced by families who had to travel long distances to access quality healthcare, often resulting in treatment delays and increased costs.
“What we are opening today changes that. It brings care closer to people and improves access directly and practically,” Abbas said.
The speaker explained that the hospital was a product of sustained engagement with constituents, who repeatedly raised concerns about inadequate healthcare infrastructure in the constituency.
He acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending the administration’s focus on targeted investments in key sectors, including healthcare, as well as the SDGs office for timely delivery.
Abbas noted that Zaria’s strategic location makes the hospital beneficial not only to residents of the city but also to surrounding communities across the North-West, adding that it would reduce referrals and ease pressure on existing facilities.
He, however, stressed that the value of the hospital would depend on effective management, urging proper staffing, equipment maintenance, and collaboration with local authorities and community groups.
(ABUTH),In their separate remarks, Governor Uba Sani and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire, commended the Speaker for attracting the project, noting that the facility, now handed over to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), is equipped to serve thousands of patients.
