There is Food Security in Delta, Farmers are Smiling-Ossai

The Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, Mr Ossai Ovie Success has said that Delta State is experiencing a boom in agriculture, with thousands of farmers smiling due to the people-centered interventions of His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.

Ossai stated that food security, which was a key campaign promise, has now become a reality in Delta under the MORE Agenda of the Oborevwori administration.According to him, the state government released N1 Billion as counterpart funding for the African Union Development Agency–New Partnership for Africa’s Development, AUDA-NEPAD.

This intervention has supported thousands of farmers engaged in food crop production, livestock, and aquaculture with inputs, training, and technical support.

He further disclosed that the governor has ensured the distribution of fertilizers to farmers across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state to boost yield for the current planting season.

In addition, agricultural inputs have been provided to over 10,000 smallholder farmers to improve productivity and guarantee sustainable food supply.

Under the Oborevwori administration , hundreds of youths have also been trained and equipped with starter packs in fishery, poultry, cassava, and vegetable farming to create wealth and jobs.

Ossai added that the administration has facilitated partnerships with private investors leading to the revival of rice mills and cassava processing clusters. This is aimed at reducing post-harvest losses and increasing income for farmers across the state.

He noted that Oborevwori has deployed extension workers to train farmers on climate-smart agriculture and modern farming techniques in the three senatorial districts.

“Farmers in Delta are no longer farming with bare hands. They now have inputs, funding, and technical support. This is why we are seeing improved harvests and more food in our markets,” Ossai said.

He concluded that Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to enhance food production, increase household incomes, and improve the livelihoods of Deltans is yielding results, with Delta moving steadily towards becoming a leading agricultural hub in Nigeria.“There is food security in Delta, and our farmers are happy,” he affirmed.
