President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sorrow for the recent terrorist attacks in Maiduguri, describing them as tragic and disturbing.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the President mourned those who died and expressed sympathy for the injured, assuring Borno State residents of the federal government’s continued support.
“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is deeply upsetting.” “I mourn those who died, sympathise with the injured, and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this difficult time,” he stated.
sted that the attacks were acts of desperation by terrorist groups under constant military pressure across the country.
“I want to make it absolutely clear that these acts of terror are the last desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements to instil and spread fear, as they are constantly under pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres,” he said.
He assured Nigerians that security operations would be increased nationwide.
“We will continue to step up our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be.”
The President praised the military for repelling coordinated attacks on security formations in the state, praising their fortitude and dedication.
“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled these terrorists’ coordinated attacks on military positions throughout the state,” he said.
Tinubu described the incident as a failed attempt by insurgents, adding that “the Monday attacks were desperate acts of evil-minded terrorist groups.”Our valiant military and civilian task forces will curtail and defeat them.”
Tinubu revealed that additional military assistance had already been authorised following a recent high-level security meeting.
“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders from security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to improve their capabilities. “This effort is already underway,” he disclosed.
He also directed top security officials to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee operations on the ground.
“I have also directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I’ve also directed emergency personnel to provide appropriate care for the injured.”
The President reaffirmed his administration’s resolve, vowing that terrorists would have no haven anywhere in the country.
“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists can find safety. We’ll find them, confront them, and completely defeat them.
“Nigeria will not succumb to fear.”
