Tinubu Presents Party’s Flag To Lawal and Pledges To End Insecurity In Zamfara

The President and Commander in Chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has pledged to bring an end to insecurity and other forms of criminality in Zamfara State as he presented the leadership flag of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to Governor Dauda Lawal.

The historic event took place at the Zamfara State Mini-Stadium at Bye-Pass Road, Lalan Area, of Gusau, the state capital.

The presence of the Nigerian president and the presentation of the party’s flag to Governor Dauda Lawal marked the beginning of a new chapter in the political landscape of Zamfara State, as political gladiators and strategists were seen uniting under the umbrella of the APC in the interest of the state.

His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, formally received Governor Dauda Lawal into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), presented the party flag to him, and formally acknowledged him as the ‘001’ and the leader of the APC in Zamfara State.

Recalled that, earlier this month, Governor Lawal announced his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, alongside his deputy and several political associates and supporters.

While welcoming the governor into the party, Vice President Shettima reiterated the federal government’s commitment to tackling security challenges in Zamfara State and the wider northern region.

He stated that adequate security personnel and equipment would be deployed to combat banditry and terrorism, to foster rapid socio-economic development in the state.

Shettima congratulated Governor Lawal on joining the APC and assured him of the federal government’s full support and cooperation in advancing the state’s development agenda.

He also expressed satisfaction over the alignment of key political figures in Zamfara under one platform, urging residents to support the APC in the 2027 general elections.

“The federal government will do everything humanly possible to rid the state of marauding bandits who have been terrorising the people,” he said.

“We will provide the necessary support to Governor Dauda Lawal to sustain and expand the progress already recorded.”

In their separate remarks, Senator Abdulaziz Yari and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, endorsed Governor Lawal for a second term in 2027.

They, however, urged him to carry all party members along in the interest of unity, peace and development.

In his words, the executive governor of Zamfara State, Dr Dauda Lawal, pledged to build on the achievements of his administration and thanked APC stakeholders for the warm reception.

“I am highly elated to join the All Progressives Congress and will continue to work tirelessly for the rapid development of our dear state,” he said.

“I appreciate both my former PDP supporters who joined me in this move and the APC members who have welcomed us. I assure you of equal treatment and inclusive governance for the progress of Zamfara State.”

The APC National Chairman, Nentanwe Yilwatda, called on the party’s faithful in the state to remain united and work collectively to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The event was attended by prominent political figures, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, who represented the Nigerian first South-South Senate President, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, as well as several APC governors and other stakeholders from across the country.
