The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has upgraded the traditional ruler of Kwali Area Council to the status of a first-class chief, citing the community’s support for President Bola Tinubu.
Wike announced during a thank-you visit to the Kwali Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, where he conveyed the appreciation of the President to residents for their support and turnout during previous engagements with the administration.
Speaking at the event, the minister said the visit was specifically to express gratitude on behalf of the president for the reception and commitment shown by the people of the area.
“On behalf of Mr President, I want to thank you sincerely for coming out to receive us for this thank-you visit,” he said.
Wike recalled an earlier interactive session with the community, noting that their requests had been clearly communicated and acknowledged by the government.
“Remember, when I came to Kwali for an interactive session, I did ask you what you wanted, and you told me. And I told you, ‘Agreements are agreements.’
He added that the community had kept its own side of the understanding by supporting the president, assuring that the government would also honour its commitments.
“Today, by the grace of God, you have fulfilled the promise you have made to Mr President. And Mr President has told me to come personally and thank you. And we will also fulfil the promise we have made to you.”
The minister also commended the leadership of the council, describing both the outgoing chairman and the chairman-elect as individuals who have the interests of the people at heart.
“Let me start by saying this clearly: your outgoing chairman and the chairman-elect are people whom we will always listen to because they have the interests of the people of Kwali at heart. The promise I made and roads, please consider it done.”
He further assured residents that the administration would support the traditional institution in the area with improved infrastructure.
“Let me also say that your traditional ruler will have a befitting palace.”
Announcing the elevation of the monarch, Wike said the decision followed the ruler’s earlier assurance of the community’s support for the president.
“Let me also say that before now, your traditional ruler told me that you are going to support Mr President, and we have seen it. I hereby, by the powers conferred in me, upgrade his chieftaincy to first-class chief. Mr President will always be with you and give you the necessary support.”
