Yilwatda Inaugurates Party’s TPI, Promising To Elevate Institute To International Level

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, on Monday in Abuja, inaugurated the Governing Council of the party’s Progressives Institute, a think tank and intellectual resource centre of the party, promising to raise the standard to an international level.

Prof. Yilwatda, speaking during the inauguration at the party’s national secretariat, said the event marks the conclusion of the process, establishing the institute’s governance structure, which began with its unveiling on September 6, 2024.

“The institute was established on the directive of the national leader of the party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to strengthen the ideological and research capacity of the party and encourage a research-driven orientation in other Nigerian political parties.

“And for us, this institute will be the driver of the research that will help the government make policies, drive the government’s policies, and drive most of the sensitive components of our research on the fight to win elections also. So while we improve governance, we also work on winning elections.

“The institute will undertake research and publications of both journals on public policy.” Democratisation, good governance, leadership, and related subject matters. To organise regular workshops, international and local conferences, and national discourse on ideology, governance, and related matters.

“Working in collaboration with relevant organs of the APC to develop and execute parties’ political strategies and undertake capacity-building programmes,” Prof. Yilwatda stated.

The institute was registered last year, 2025, with the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, and has received approval from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education as a foremost research and training institute.

Yilwatda, who is also chairman of the Governing Council, assured that the party leadership is committed to giving the Institute full support and attention; congratulated the Council members on their appointment; and expressed confidence in their ability to contribute to building a world-class institution.

He commended President Tinubu for his vision in establishing the institute and his predecessor, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for their efforts in setting up the institution, appealing to party elders, state governors, and representatives to support the institute by outsourcing training, research, and consultancy services to it.

In his speech, the Director-General and Secretary of the Council, Dr. Lanre Adebayo, assured the APC leadership that the team would serve with dignity and give their best individual and collective expertise to enable the party to harness high value and the benefits derivable from establishing the institute.

He recalled that the institute commenced without a takeoff grant from the party but commended the party’s national chairman for his support and collaboration, promising that the institute would give its best to the party.

The inauguration of the TPI Governing Council is expected to mark the beginning of a new era in the APC’s efforts to build a strong intellectual foundation and promote a research-driven approach to governance.

Members of the board include Senator Ajibola Bashiru, the national secretary of the party; Prof. Musala Alimukankia; Dr. Larry Adebayo, secretary; and Prof. Chris Kwaja.

Others are Prof. Dogara Mato, Alhaji Muhammad Bulama Ngaze, Prof. Ben Nannin, and Prof. Achidjoge.

There are also ex-officials of the institute, which include the Director of Program and Training, Rodolfo Salusi; Saeed Sule, Director, Legal Services; Barisa Egokun; Zuma, Director, Administration; Prof. Ademola Abbas Seattle, Director, Human Resources; Alhaji Salihondo; and the Director, Planning, Alhaji Douda.
